Going out on the boat this weekend?

Summer days are calling you to load up the boat and try out a few new tricks! But before you launch, consider putting together a boat-specific first aid kit. An emergency can happen at any time, and being prepared is crucial.
How frustrating it would be to go looking for medical supplies in five places on the boat when your friend cuts his leg? Put everything you need in one nifty container for quick access. A tackle box works great! Choose the size according to how many people you typically host on your boat and the number of supplies needed.

The Ultimate First Aid Kit:
- First Aid Manual - make sure it covers adults and children. If your dog happens to love the boat, consider adding a manual for your pup along with first aid supplies for your dog.
- Multi-tool
- Compass
- Iodine water treatment tablets (you never know when you need more water!)
- Sterile gauze pads of different sizes
- Adhesive tape Adhesive bandages in different sizes
- Q-Tips
- A splint Antiseptic wipes
- Soap and hand sanitizer
- Antibiotic ointment
- Medicines (Tums, ibuprofen, Dramamine, Pepto Bismol, Hydrocortisone cream) TIP: Use a small plastic medicine sorter to keep the medicines organized and to save space! Be sure to label them correctly.
- Tweezers
- Sharp scissors
- Safety pins
- Disposable instant cold packs
- Thermometer
- Plastic non-latex gloves (be prepared and have two pairs in your kit)
- Mini flashlight and extra batteries
- Whistle
- Fog Horn
- Sunscreen

Of course, the list above can be adjusted to fit your family’s needs. If you have a baby on the boat, you might add teething tablets, baby medicines, and the droppers to administer them, Boogie Wipes, Pedialyte packets, and character band-aids!
It’s important to be prepared on the boat! An accident can happen when you least expect it and having an organized boat-specific first aid kit will be the first step to staying calm until help arrives or the situation is under control.
